About Us

Muddy Boots Pre-school is a warm, nurturing and vibrant village pre-school where every child is encouraged to explore, learn and develop through play.

It has an Ofsted rating of “Good” and welcomes future explorers, ballerinas, authors and even superheroes from 2 years and 6 months old (changing to 2 years old from September 2023).

It is located in its own dedicated building in the grounds of Walgrave Primary School and boasts a beautiful outdoor woodland area ready to spark every child’s imagination (and wear them out before home time!)

It is open daily during term time, offering morning, afternoon or full day sessions from 8.45am to 3pm.

The pre-school follows the EYFS structure and provides each child with a key worker who is committed to helping them become confident and independent learners and explorers.

Staff are experienced in working with children of all abilities and the pre-school has a dedicated Inclusion Manager/Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) who supports children with any additional needs.

Our children learn, explore and play in an open plan room with a maximum of 20 children per session. The room is divided into a variety of different learning areas, including a home corner, art and mark making, a library, ICT, sand and water play, adult led activities and a small world area.

Muddy Boots has a close working relationship with Walgrave Primary School and Muddy Boots children visit the school and share activities with the school’s reception class helping them to prepare for the transition to ‘big school.’

The pre-school prides itself on working closely with parents and carers and staff are always available at the beginning and end of each session to talk.  Parents and carers are also welcome to call or email at any time during the day to discuss their child.

The pre-school also uses Tapestry. This is an online learning journal which allows key workers to upload photos and comments to a dedicated page for each child throughout the day.  Parents and carers can then access these photos and leave comments, helping them to track their child’s progress. Parents can also share family experiences/milestones with staff through the journal.

Parents are also invited to join stay and play sessions. Staff offer parents regular P.E.A.L (Parents, Early Years and Learning) activities to complete at home and ask for suggestions for activities or tasks that parents would like the children to undertake.

Muddy Boots accepts 15 hours per week of universal government funding for three and four year olds, and is registered to childcare voucher schemes and the tax free childcare scheme. Funding for eligible 2 year olds is also available.

All prospective parents and children are invited to come along and explore our setting. Elaine Allen our manager will be delighted to show you around the pre-school and answer any questions you may have. Please call 01604 781838 or email info@muddybootswalgrave.co.uk to arrange your visit.
